Celebrate your December birthdays with meaningful jewelry set with a symbolic Tanzanite, Turquoise, or Zircon - each stone known for their unique hues of blue.
Tanzanite
This stunning blue-purple Tanzanite gemstone is rarer than the other December birthstones due to its limited geographical origins and sources.
Tanzanite appears blue at first glance, with flashes of soft, earthy purple.
The Tanzanite namesake originates from the African country of Tanzania, and ranks around a 6-7 on the MOHS hardness scale, meaning it can scratch over time and you'll want to select a secure setting style to ensure it will last years to come.
One of our favorite ways to set a Tanzanite ring? In a gold bezel, accented by diamonds. A setting like this gives the gemstone all the beauty, while keeping it safe for day-to-day wear.
Turquoise
Turquoise has long been admired for its distinct powdery blue and unique veining.
According to the American Gem Society, the word “turquoise” dates back to the 13th century, drawing from the French expression Pierre Torques, which referenced the “Turkish stone” brought to Europe from Turkey.
It can range from a pure, smooth blue or a green with an earthy-toned matrix. It's a perfect stone to collect because each piece can look so different!

Turquoise is created in arid regions where rainwater dissolves copper in the soil. This process forms colorful deposits when it combines with aluminum and phosphorus. Places such as Nevada, New Mexico and California offer the best regions and terrain for Turquoise to form.
Today, the United States is the largest Turquoise supplier.
Zircon
Following the striking blue Tanzanite, and storybook Turquoise, December also celebrates with a gemstone called Zircon.
While this gemstone is more commonly known for its brownish-reddish color, the blue Zircon is incredibly eye-catching and electric.
Some believe that this gem gets its name from the Persian word "zargun", meaning “gold-colored.” Others trace it to the Arabic "zarkun", meaning “vermillion.”
Zircon comes in a vast range of colors, so it's perfect for a December birthday who is drawn to colors besides blue. Pink, orange, green, white... it's endless.
It ranks at a 6.5-7.5 on the MOHS scale; similar to Tanzanite, it may scratch over time. While we don't recommend it as an engagement ring or everyday piece, there are countless ways to securely set a Zircon so you can love it and wear it for years to come.
