Powered by GPS Solar technology, it automatically adjusts to any time zone with pinpoint accuracy, ensuring precision wherever you roam.

What Does Solar Powered GPS Mean?

Accurate.

At full charge, it has a 6 month power reserve, charged by sunlight. The solar cell (power source) is powered by light energy, with no battery change required.

Powered by Caliber 3x62, the Seiko Astron is equipped to seamlessly change between 39 different time zones with a Sub-dial for quick reference and a perpetual calendar. The watch also features an Airplane mode and will catch you up to local time as soon as you step off the plane.

A Revolution in Design and Aesthetic

A groundbreaking feat in the watch industry, Seiko set new standards in quartz timekeeping in the 60's, bringing the Quartz Astron to the market. "As Seiko’s communication of the day put it: ‘Someday all watches will be made this way.'"

Anytime the Astron is exposed to direct light (even on a cloudy or rainy day!), it receives signal from a GPS satellite 20,000km away.

In 2012, Seiko introduced a GPS Astron model with Chronograph speed timing functions, a further testament to the groundbreaking feats Seiko sets forth to achieve in the watchmaking industry.

Along with introducing major technological advances in watchmaking, the design style of the Astron itself brought a bold and distinctive appearance, blending accuracy and aesthetic in a cool new octagon-shaped Titanium case.

"The Astron name, long associated with accuracy, has been carried on by the
Astron GPS Solar series since 2012."

Seiko served as the official timekeeper of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, and at this point, Seiko had introduced a successful, accurate, and exciting Quartz Chronometer. It was later that decade, in 1969, that Seiko charged forward with the world's first easy-to-wear, practical, and accurate quartz wristwatch. The watch was dubbed "The Astron", an ancient Greek word for "Star".

The Astron vs. a Traditional GMT for the Modern Traveler

The GMT has long been hailed as the ultimate travelers watch, and for good reason. Multi-time-zone keeping capacity, often with the option of a third time zone, can come in handy for businesses functioning in different states or countries. It begs the question, which one is the better choice as a frequent flyer?

The question really is this: will you use the multi-time zone function?

Seiko's lineup of GMT's features a wide range of multi timekeeping options and an array of bi-directional bezels, but if you err on the side of an automatic set up, ease of use, and you prefer your watch to adjust without having to wind it around on every layover, the Astron is the choice for you - not to mention how light and durable the titanium is for those long-haul trips.
