Grand Seiko Evokes Nature with New Release

There were 54 brands that participated in Watches and Wonder - 38 of them Swiss, 7 French, 3 German, 2 from Italy, and one each from Belgium, Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Japanese luxury brand Grand Seiko showcased some of the most celebrated releases of the weekend.

Case in point: the new Evolution 9 “Genbi Valley'' (Reference number SLGH021) is a total stunner. It sports an iconic molded dial with a brand-new dial pattern in radiant green that presents itself in a variety of shades, from mint green to ocean green, depending on the angle and quality of light–evoking the verdant geography of its namesake river valley in Japan.

The Genbi Valley is also the first of the Evolution 9 series to sport a case crafted in Grand Seiko’s Ever-Brilliant Steel, which claims the highest resistance to corrosion in the industry. The material’s white shine evokes qualities of precious metals, and combos well with the dynamic green color of the dial. The Caliber 9SA5 is a ten-beat movement that is capable of 80 hours of continuous operation when the watch is fully wound.

The Genbi Valley is a limited release at a price of $10,400 with a limited release of 1,000 units worldwide. Watch geeks love Grand Seiko – and for good reason. Not only do these timepieces hold their own with the best of the best in terms of movement, quality of materials, and finish–but their most popular watches stand out by uniquely referencing geography, seasons, and nature in ways that are rarely seen in the industry.
