Garnet The word “garnet” comes from the 14th century Middle English word gernet, meaning “dark red.” The word is derived from Latin granatum, which means “seed,” and is called so because of the gemstone’s resemblance to the beautifully red seeds of the pomegranate. Garnet is the name of a group of minerals that come in a rainbow of colors, from the deep red of the pyrope garnet to the vibrant green of tsavorites. Some rare garnets are even blue, colorless, or—most rare of all—change colors in different lights. But the most common garnet color is a beautiful range of reds, from rust colored to deep violet-red. This beautiful gemstone is perfect for those who share January birthdays.

Product Care -Garnets have fair to good toughness, making them durable enough for all jewelry styles as long as they are treated with the proper care. Garnets should not be subjected to any hard blows or rough wear.
-Warm soapy water is always safe for cleaning garnets. The ultrasonic cleaner is usually safe except for stones that have fractures. Steam cleaning is not recommended.
-Garnets might rarely be treated by fracture filling. Only warm soapy water should be used to clean fracture-filled stones. Oxidized Silver A piece of blackened or oxidized silver is true sterling silver, but it's surface has been intentionally darkened through by introducing it to a chemical process. Like other patinas, oxidized silver is just a surface treatment and does not change the internal color or properties of the metal.

Product Care -It’s best to remove your oxidized silver jewelry before aggressive contact and when showering or washing your hands to prolong the dark color.
-If cleaning is necessary, use mild dish detergent and soft toothbrush with as little rubbing as possible. Silver For centuries, silver has been prized for its incredible luster and workability. Pure silver is highly tarnish-resistant but is too soft to use for jewelry design. Other metals like copper, nickel, or zinc, are added to harden silver. For example, sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% another metal. Silver products sometimes may be marked “925” which means that 925 parts per thousand are pure silver. Some jewelry may be described as silverplate: a layer of silver is bonded to a base metal. If you’re looking for an inexpensive metal for your fine jewelry, silver is a good choice. Since silver is soft and scratches easily, it’s best used for jewelry that is not worn daily.

Product Care -Your sterling silver jewelry will need cleaning and polishing from time to time to remove fingerprints, oils, and naturally occurring tarnish.
-The most effective way to clean sterling silver is with warm water and mild bar soap. (Liquid soap is likely to leave a film on your jewelry, resulting in a dull finish.)
