This distinctive chronograph celebrates Seiko's first precision chronographs developed for international sporting competitions in 1964 and its 1969 introduction of the world's first automatic chronograph. The color scheme takes inspiration from Seiko's 1972 stopwatch designed for timing winter sports at a major Sapporo sporting event, where black dials ensured legibility against snow. The 34-jewel caliber 8R46 automatic movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, delivering chronograph measurement to 30 minutes in 1/8-second increments. The proprietary movement includes column wheel and vertical clutch mechanisms allowing smooth, stutter-free chronograph hand movement while improving power reserve efficiency.
The matte black dial reduces light reflection while red indices and chronograph accents enhance visibility, all framed by a tachymeter ring. The 42.5mm stainless steel case with black hard coating measures 15.1mm tall, creating presence on the wrist. The black calf leather strap features covered interior stitching to protect against perspiration during athletic activities.
