This is the same bypass format as the east-west marquise, but here the stone is set vertically — pointed tips running north and south in the traditional orientation — which changes the character of the design considerably. The two polished yellow gold shanks sweep past each other at different heights, one curling back on the left and the other angling down on the right, framing the marquise with asymmetric energy. Six bead prongs secure the stone, including the characteristic pointed-tip protection the marquise requires. No diamonds on the band, nothing to distract from the interplay of stone and metal.
