seiko sje099 1965 reinterpretation dive watch

The SJE099 represents a pivotal moment in Seiko's diving legacy, marking the first globally released collection to bear the Marinemaster name on its dial.

This modern reinterpretation traces its lineage directly to the legendary 62MAS from 1965, Japan's first professional diver's watch, a timepiece that proved its mettle during the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969.

What distinguishes this Marinemaster is the unprecedented exhibition caseback, a first for any Seiko diver's watch. Through the screwdown sapphire window, the 26-jewel Caliber 6L37 reveals itself in motion. This slimline automatic movement, measuring just 3.7mm thick, enabled Seiko to create their thinnest mechanical diver's watch to date at 12.3mm while maintaining full ISO certification for scuba diving to 200 meters. The movement delivers 45 hours of power reserve and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with accuracy rated between +15 and -10 seconds daily.

The 39.5mm stainless steel case features Seiko's super-hard coating for exceptional durability, while dramatic chamfering on the bezel and case creates a sophisticated interplay of hairline and mirror finishes. The blue dial carries a distinctive horizontal wave pattern beneath LumiBrite hands and indices. An entirely new bracelet design with ellipse-shaped, dual-curved links provides remarkable wearing comfort, secured by a tri-fold clasp with diver's extension.
