What is Custom Jewelry?

Custom jewelry is a piece designed specifically with you in mind. It gives you the freedom to choose details like the metal, gemstones, setting, shape, and finishing touches to create something that reflects your style and story. Whether you have a detailed vision or just an idea, a jeweler can help bring it to life.

Behind the Scenes of a Custom Piece

Let’s take a closer look at the process behind creating a custom piece. We’ll explore what happens after the initial consultation. From the designer’s vision and creative process, to the skilled craftsmanship that brings the piece to life in our shop.

1. The Idea

This is the first step to begin your journey of custom jewelry design at Skeie's. Every custom piece begins with the design. This is where your ideas, inspiration, and personal style come together to create a vision for something uniquely yours.

"We do see a lot of reference images from new clients, when presenting an idea, and for some we can find the idea with just a conversation. "

Logan James, Lead Designer

2. The Design

After your initial consultation with our designer and gemologist, the design process begins. Sketches and CAD renderings are created to bring your ideas to life and give you a clear visual of what your custom piece will look like before it’s made.

3. At the Bench

At the bench is where the design begins to become something real. After the vision and details have been carefully planned, the piece moves from concept to creation, taking shape through each step of the crafting process.

4. The Final Touches

Once the piece has been fully constructed, quality-checked, and carefully reviewed, it’s time for the final touches. This is where the small details come together to ensure the finished piece feels polished, intentional, and truly one of a kind.

We take a final look at the piece as a whole, refining any details that may need attention and making sure every element of the piece is working together as intended.

5. The Delivery

The final step is the moment we’ve been working toward: delivering the finished custom piece to you. After all the planning, execution, quality checks, and finishing touches, the custom piece is finally completed.

We take care to make the delivery experience feel just as personal as the piece itself. Whether it’s carefully packaged for shipment or personally handed over, we want you to receive your custom piece in perfect condition and with the same excitement we had while creating it.

What Can Be Customized

From rings, pendants, earrings, or bracelets, almost anything you can think of can be designed and brought to life at Skeie's. You'll be able to choose details that make a piece. Depending on the design, you can customize almost everything from the overall style to the smallest finishing touches.

Here are some ideas of those customizable details:

  • Metal: Choose from options like yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum.
  • Gemstones: Select your diamond, gemstone, shape, size, and color.
  • Setting: Decide how your gemstone is showcased, from a classic solitaire to a more detailed design.
  • Design Details: Add engraving, milgrain, filigree, unique textures, or other personal touches.
  • Personal Elements: Incorporate birthstones, heirloom gemstones, meaningful symbols, or other sentimental details.

Not Every Custom Has To Be From Scratch

Something that tends to get lost in the world of customs, is that a piece of jewelry does not have to be made from scratch to be a custom.

Some examples of this are:

  • Modifying an existing design you already love
  • Changing the metal or gemstone
  • Adding or removing design details
  • Creating a matching wedding band
  • Incorporating an heirloom gemstone or piece of jewelry
  • Combining elements from multiple designs
  • Adding personal details like engraving or hidden gemstones

How Much Does Custom Jewelry Cost?

Wondering how much custom jewelry cost is something a lot of people face when inquiring about a custom jewelry piece. At Skeie's we want to help you design the best piece that is within your price range, but there are some key elements to consider.

Elements that contribute to custom jewelry prices:

  • Metal: The type and amount of metal used, one may be more expensive than another
  • Gemstones: The type, size, quality, and number of gemstones
  • Design complexity: More intricate or detailed designs may require additional craftsmanship
  • Labor & craftsmanship: The time and skill needed to create the piece
  • Size & proportions: Larger or more substantial designs generally require more materials
  • Heirloom materials: Whether existing jewelry or gemstones are being incorporated into the new design
