The Icy Splendor of the Early Autumn Frost
The SBGH295 is an evocative, artistic tribute to Soko, the traditional Japanese micro-season that marks the arrival of the first frost of autumn. The watch beautifully captures the exact moment when the crisp morning air freezes the morning dew, blanketing the vibrant scenery in a delicate, crystalline layer of ice. The dial features a brilliant, heavily textured frost pattern executed in a striking light blue hue, a direct nod to the clear skies over the Sea of Japan near the studio where the watch is hand-crafted. This cool canvas is contrasted by mirror-polished, multi-faceted index markers and a vibrant, temper-blue seconds hand that glides fluidly across the frozen landscape.
The Historic 62GS Geometry and Zaratsu Radiance
The architecture of the SBGH295 is a contemporary re-interpretation of the iconic 1967 62GS—Grand Seiko's historic first automatic watch. The stainless steel case is instantly recognizable by its bold, bezel-free construction, an engineering choice where the dual-curved sapphire crystal is mounted directly onto the case body. This design eliminates visual bulk, allowing the 40mm case to sit low and secure on the arm with a slim 12.9mm profile. The multi-sided lugs and case flanks feature sharp, sweeping lines brought to life with legendary hand-applied Zaratsu mirror polishing, creating perfectly flat, distortion-free surfaces that contrast beautifully against fine brushed accents.
High-Frequency Precision via Caliber 9GH5
Driving the SBGH295 is Grand Seiko’s legendary in-house Caliber 9S85, a high-frequency mechanical automatic movement that represents the peak of modern timing engineering. Operating at a blistering rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour (10 beats per second), this hi-beat movement minimizes rate variations to achieve an elite static accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. Utilizing proprietary MEMS technology to manufacture ultra-lightweight and highly durable escapement components, Grand Seiko ensures this powerhouse movement maintains a robust 55-hour power reserve. Flipping the watch over reveals a sapphire exhibition case back, exposing the decorated bridges and intricate mechanics of the caliber.
