The Seiko 5 Sports has been a cornerstone of accessible horology since 1968, and the SRPD65 represents the collection at its most unapologetically bold.
Introduced in 2019 as part of a sweeping redesign that retired the beloved SKX series, this all-black variant carries that legacy forward with a sharper edge. The 42.5mm case and matching bracelet wear a black PVD hard coating that gives the watch a cohesive, almost stealthy presence on the wrist, every surface, from the unidirectional rotating bezel to the crown guard, reads as a single unified object.
Inside beats Seiko's caliber 4R36, a 24-jewel automatic movement running at 21,600 vibrations per hour with roughly 41 hours of power reserve. Unlike its predecessor, the 4R36 offers both manual winding and a hacking seconds function, meaningful improvements that make day-to-day use more precise and convenient. The exhibition caseback puts the movement on full display. The black dial features a day/date window at 3 o'clock, bold arrow-style hands treated with LumiBrite, and a chapter ring with a minute track, practical, legible, and purpose-built for sports use. Hardlex crystal and 100 metres of water resistance round out a specification sheet that punches well above its price.
